Lead Coach Rob Cotterill
This will be Rob’s fifth year coaching at Hadleigh following two years coaching mini rugby in the slightly warmer climate of Dubai. All of this comes after a 30 year playing career for a variety of clubs, starting at full back and moving in through the centres, finally settling in the back row as age, speed and weight conspired against him. An RFU level one qualified coach with three sons at the club, it is fair to say he lives and breathes the game.
Parent Helper Alf Alty
Parent helper assisting the lead coach with the training sessions. Has a son involved within this age group.
Parent Helper Val Gladwell

Team Manager Tiffany Ransome
Parent helper with a child in this age group. Been involved with Hadleigh RFC for several years being team
manager for U7 & U8. Passionate about rugby having watched her father through the years and also played at University.
If you are looking to join and have a very welcoming introduction to rugby for the future. Don't hesitate to email or call Tiffany.
Training Times Sunday mornings 9.30 am – 11 am at the club and a schedule of home & away fixtures. There are also festivals at other clubs.
About Us The U1s (school year 5) is the group where we have left the tags behind and are now playing contact rugby (introduction of the tackle) for the first time – even more opportunities to get covered in mud! We introduce contact in a safe, encouraging and engaging way – with fun and enjoyment in abundance. The group will involve those who started at younger ages as well as those new young athletes to come and try Rugby for the first time. It is also the chance for them to bring their families and experience everything Hadleigh Rugby Club has to offer.
There are no match fees, everything is rolled into one very reasonable membership fee for a 35 week season and includes post-match hot dogs, end of season trophies etc. We will be very happy to have you join us for a session or two while you decide if Hadleigh Rugby is for you.
Hadleigh RFC is a local club at the heart of our community, with links with local schools. We are delighted by the number of players who progress up the age levels and into our senior teams. Keeping players involved throughout their schooldays and beyond means that they benefit from being part of the rugby family and from the friendships and health benefits that our sport offers. The credit for our success as a club is due to the commitment of our young players, the endeavours of the club’s qualified and enthusiastic coaches, our many marvellous volunteers, our players’ parents and supporters and our sponsors.
Our Approach Mini rugby is a fantastic way of gradually introducing children to the great game in a carefully structured format commensurate with their physical development and burgeoning skill levels. Rugby is a fun game and our principal aim is to encourage children to embrace that fun and teach them the ethos of the game - fair play and respect for your coaches, colleagues and opponents. Alongside this Hadleigh RFC aims to ensure that players, coaches, parents, spectators and volunteers uphold the Core Values of rugby union - Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and sportsmanship.
In this group we aim to introduce the tackle, build confidence in contact and maximise enjoyment and involvement.
In addition to keeping children fit, rugby creates a strong bond of friendship and mutual respect not just for team mates, but for opposition players and the rules of the game. The life skills children learn through rugby are invaluable. Referees do not always get it right, but in rugby their decisions are accepted without complaint (or heavily punished if they are not accepted by loss of vital territory). Many of the friends that the children make during their rugby career will be with them for life. Unlike some sports, we do not disappear as soon as the final whistle blows, we adjourn to the clubhouse to socialise and chat about the morning's events. Come and see for yourself.
